LINDELOF IMPRESSES IN MANCHESTER DERBY WIN

Sweden national team centre back Victor Lindelof was one of the standout players for Manchester United as they claimed a good win over neighbours Manchester City in their Premier League clash earlier on Sunday. Sweden player Lindelof was rock solid at the back for Manchester United as he helped his team to keep a clean sheet during the game, which ended in a 2-0 away win for the Red Devils. Victor Lindelof has formed a good centre back partnership with club skipper Harry Maguire and the two players were crucial to the result earned at the Etihad Stadium against hosts Manchester City. Sweden national team defender Victor Lindelof and the other players restricted Manchester City to few chances and that formed the basis for a third league win at Manchester City for Manchester United. The Red Devils were able to put spanner in the works of the winning run by Manchester City. The Premier League leaders had gone on a run of 21 wins in all competitions since December 2020 and were favourites to make it 22 wins on the bounce against Manchester United in the derby but the Red Devils had other ideas. Manchester United are unbeaten away from home in the league this term and they were able to maintain that record with the latest win in the Manchester Derby away from home in the league.

Manchester United were very good as they returned to winning ways after three goalless draws in the Europa League and the last two league games but they were giving a helping hand by Manchester City. Gabriel Jesus started as the central striker for the Citizens upfront and his overzealousness in winning possession back after he had lost it led to the game’s first goal. Manchester City striker Jesus was penalised for his foul on Anthony Martial in the box and Bruno Fernandes made no mistake with the resulting spot kick. The Portugal international was on target from the penalty spot inside two minutes to give the Red Devils the lead. Sweden player Lindelof and his fellow Manchester United defenders kept Manchester City at bay for the rest of the first half as Manchester United were good value for the 1-0 halftime lead. Manchester United started well in the first half and they repeated the same feat in the second half with the impressive Luke Shaw getting the second goal at the start of the second half. Manchester City had a few decent opportunities to score but they could not find a way back into the game. With the away win over Manchester City, Manchester United moved above Leicester City back into second place and also close the gap to leaders Manchester City to 11 points with ten league games left to play this season
