Alvaro, FIFA gave the 1978 World Cup to Argentina in 6/7/1966. President
Arturo Illia was thrown out in 28/6/66 so is safe to say that FIFA gave the
Cup to a dictatorship even when it was already in their plans to give the
1970 Cup to Mexico and the 1978 to Argentina. And the 1966-1972
dictatorship was far, far less bloody and violent than the one that
    organized the cup in 1978.

  • On Sweden’s second goal, they pushed the ball 4 times forward and scored.
Today, teams overdo the backward pass to keep “possession,” which has a lot
to do with teams ending games at 0-0 or 1-1, low scoring and boring.
Please take another look at 4:02.

A disappointing tournament from Uruguay culminating in this hapless display
against one of the best Swedish teams of all time with the imperious Ronnie
Hellstrom in goal and Ralf Edstrom in his pomp.

  • Fredrik Svensson says:

The swedish national team in football are not called “Tre Kronor”, thats
the Ice hockey Team. Otherwise its correct facts.

  • Guess you didn’t understand my words. Uruguay HAS NEVER WON A SINGLE MATCH
ON A BRAZILIAN PITCH SINCE 1950. (i.e 1981 Mundialito took place in
Montevideo and 1983 Copa America victory also happened in Montevideo.
Uruguay drew against Brazil on their way match.) Come on mate, do you guys
know what football’s all about in your country? lol You’re free to support
whoever you want but stop writing such nonsense.

  • Este sí que era un cuadro triste. Trotaba la cancha y ni defendía ni
sorprendía. Suerte tuvo de llegar al mundial…

UNLIKE YOU, I’ve had a wonderful afternoon today… You may as well call
it; “The taste of honey!” BRAZIL CONFEDERATION’S CUP WINNERS FOR THE THIRD
TIME (SECOND IN A ROW!) What about you? It must have been so BITTER AND
SOWER for you losers again… HISTORY IS MADE OF ACTUAL ACHIEVEMENTS!
    Brasil noma… hehehe

  • Melchersson says:

Thank you for posting this old game from one Scandinavian to another! ; )
    Thank you very much!

  • No, Faroes are situated in North Atlantic. This is really a very small
Scandinavian country, population only 49.000. Nethertheless they have their
own National team and participate in World Cup qualifiers in Europe. Last
Wednesday they beat Lithuania 2-1! 19 years ago exactly this day, they beat
Austria 1-0 in their very first competitive game. Faroes are my first team,
    Celeste are my second…

Why should you keep dragging this up? I thought this page was dedicated to
football but you speak of “big countries” with the same knowledge you’ve
got of football… VERY LITTLE! Rather contradictory for someone whose
origins are Russian… (sic) On the other hand, I wonder why you still live
in your tiny little island and haven’t yet gone to Uruguay. Guess it won’t
make a hell of a change for “small countries, small mentality…”
    CENTENARIAZO 0x4. LOSERS! lol

  • thestick52 says:

You’re absolutely mistaken! Uruguay have a long and sad record of violence
and cheating around the world. I repeat it once again; Uruguay haven’t WON
A MATCH IN BRAZIL SINCE 1950 and your best results were DRAWS! You’d better
be careful for your paisito won’t classify for South Africa next year…
    hehe

  • you should not teach me football history, mate 🙂 I am actually a football
historian and statistican and I bet I’ll beat you in any World cup quiz (as
I did many times before against all others and never lost to anyone).
Remember, you started yourself all that meaningless attacks on Uruguay and
Celeste… did Uruguayans do you anything that you wish so sincerely that
they would not qualify to the next world cup? After all, Uruguay is South
America’s smallest nation – by far. But they will.

@Foggystar no sos el màs adecauado para hacer esas acusaciones! vos tenès
un montòn de cuentas australianas brasileñas y hasta alguna chilena para

Hi Farerets, only a few words before I go out and celebrate Brazil new
victory over Argentina last night in Rosario (3 x 1). Although Dunga’s
squad isn’t playing that well, they’ve still managed to achieve rather
interesting results. By the way; how about our humiliating winning against
the lousy Uruguayans at the Centenariazo? Boy, was it a kick in the ars?
hehe How frustrating your life is; Uruguay won’t even qualify for the
play-offs… Loss against Peru last night. LOSERS!

  • thestick52 says:

You must be joking… After all you’ve written here tonight, you are far
from what I’d call “a reference… ” lo AND WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR EXPLOITS?
A “football historian and statistican ” who never realised that Uruguay
have never beaten Brazil on his own soil for the last 60 years. Excuse “my
French” but you’re such a wanker! And YES, there’s an excellent reason for
me to hope Uruguay won’t qualify: THEY ARE CHEATERS! Back to your books
    now, mate…

  • SweMaximuS says:

@thestick52 You know that Uruguay have the potential of playing against
teams like Brazil and give them their toughest match ever. In the World Cup
they showed that pretty well. And yeah you wrote that message like a
11months ago, but if you really like football, you should know that Uruguay
is a team with that potential, if you know a little football-history witch
    i think you do.

  • SweMaximuS says:

@thestick52 Now they played very good in the world cup and they showed how
good they really can be. I’ve always liked Brazil, and i have never met a
Brazilian (except you) that don’t like Uruguay. We also have a great
football history, obviously not as good as the Brazilian, but hey, our
    population is 3mil.,
